Continuing where the previous article left off…
If one goes over to Night Shade Books publisher Jeremy Lassen’s twitter feed, one notices that he retweets the tweets of political commentator Glenn Greenwald (who blogs at Salon) a LOT. I mean more than any other person it would appear, by a long shot.
In fact the two consecutive tweets of his directed my way on the 23rd March (see previous article) follow straight after two retweets by Lassen of two Glenn Greenwald tweets!

Lassen retweeted another Greenwald tweet on the 22nd March, another on the 19th March, two on the 16th March, then Oh My God you have to go all the way back to February 25th and the 22nd for Lassen’s retweeting of Greenwald’s tweets.
Then more recently, as I publish this online, I notice that Lassen retweeted Greenwald twice on the 16th June, by coincidence the same day I published my first article on Lassen. I have more to say on this toward the end of this article.
It’s worth remarking that Lassen is not one who tweets every five bloody minutes (like Lavie “the Palestinians have become the true Jews” Tidhar. Sheesh). In fact Lassen is neither one who tweets rarely nor way too much, he’s in the middle rank. The thing is (at least this year) it appears that Lassen retweets Greenwald more than any other political journalist or commentator. If that ain’t an endorsement and commendation of Greenwald’s uh political worldview, I don’t know what else would be.
Well to cut to the chase – Glenn Greenwald personifies the ugly, dishonest and fashionable ‘new’ anti-Semitism as much as anybody in America, and to an extreme degree. Yes Greenwald is Jewish (the worst anti-Semites often are).
There is sooo much ugly Judenhass (that pretends otherwise) spewed out by the ‘Jewish’ Glenn Greenwald, that it’s difficult to know where to begin.
So just a couple of choice examples, including some recent heated controversies that Greenwald has been ensnared in…
Adam Levick writes:
Interestingly, Greenwald also has penned columns for Patrick Buchanan’s paleoconservative magazine The American Conservative, often on Israel-related stories
I remark here – red wolf that is – that Greenwald demonstrates the cross-over appeal of his Jew-baiting, to both anti-Semitic Leftists (where he has penned articles for the LA Times to In These Times, aside from his blogging for Salon) and anti-Semitic conservatives alike. Buchanan has flirted with everything from Holocaust Revisionism to blaming America’s two wars in the Gulf on the Jews. Greenwald naturally could care less.
Greenwald not infrequently vilifies supporters of Israel and Jews as such, including implications of dual loyalty and excessive control. Parts of a Greenwald article that was originally posted on The American Conservative are cited on the website of right-wing extremist David Duke. He refers to Greenwald as one of those brave enough to resist the “Likudniks’ politically kosher paradigm” and quotes Greenwald’s assertion that “large and extremely influential Jewish donor groups are the ones agitating for a U.S. war against Iran, and that is the case because those groups are devoted to promoting Israel’s interests.” Although, seemingly, such charges of the corrosive influence of “Jewish money” and insufficient American Jewish loyalty to the United States are typical of right-wing extremism and classic anti-Semitism, Greenwald has a liberal affiliation.
Greenwald writes frequently about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He often focuses on how the conflict plays itself out in American politics, and he makes claims – associated recently with Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer – about the power of the Israel lobby in this political debate. Indeed, the rhetoric Greenwald employs in this context is often much less restrained, and much more hyperbolic, than the more academic style of Walt and Mearsheimer.
Red wolf – I remark here that the “more academic style of Walt and Mearsheimer” is horribly anti-Semitic, even if “in the academic style”. Walt and Mersheimer have sold the thesis that the Jooooooos oh I mean the Israel lobby pushed America into war in Iraq for Israel’s benefit. Naturally this thesis is popular with anti-Semitic paleocons, white supremacists, Muslim extremists and anti-Semitic liberals alike.
He [Greenwald] also claims often that criticism of Israel is forbidden and hazardous to the career of those who engage in it. Of course, his own harsh anti-Israeli statements have not harmed his career at all. Following are some examples:
So absolute has the Israel-centric stranglehold on American policy been that the U.S. Government has made it illegal to broadcast Hezbollah television stations.
Not even our Constitution’s First Amendment has been a match for the endless exploitation of American policy, law and resources [by the Israel lobby] to target and punish Israel’s enemies.
The real goal [of the Israel lobby], as always, was to ensure that there is no debate over America’s indescribably self-destructive, blind support for Israeli actions. [Charles] Freeman’s critics may have scored a short-term victory in that regard, but the more obvious it becomes what is really driving these scandals, the more difficult it will be to maintain this suffocating control over American debates and American policy.
The point is that the power the [Israel lobby] exercises [is] harmful in the extreme. They use it to squelch debate, destroy the careers and reputations of those who deviate from their orthodoxies, and compel both political parties to maintain strict adherence to an agenda that is held by a minority of Americans; that is principally concerned with the interests of a foreign country; and that results in serious cost and harm to the United States. In doing so, they ensure not only that our policies towards Israel remain firmly in place no matter the outcome of our elections, but also that those policies remain beyond the realm of what can be questioned or debated by those who want to have a political future.
Anyone who has argued that a desire to protect Israeli interests plays too large of a role in our foreign policy has been subjected to some of the most vicious and relentless smears. Ask Juan Cole about that, or John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt. Those tactics have, as intended, prevented a substantive debate on this question, as most people have feared even approaching the topic.
[Eisenhower] told Israel that “we handle our affairs exactly as though we didn’t have a Jew in America” – and [this] was then likely an uncontroversial sentiment. Today, if an American politician said anything remotely like that – that American interests would take precedence over Israel’s…how many seconds would elapse before the full-scale and permanent destruction of their political career was complete?
If you don’t…pledge your loyalty to our policies toward Israel and to Israel, what will happen to you is what just happened to Charles Freeman. You’ll be demonized and have your career ended.
Maybe Jeremy Lassen and his crew (and the Greenwald fan club as a whole) will tell us there is nothing remotely anti-Semitic about the above quotes of Greenwald’s. I mean I don’t know. It’s just that Lassen is such a big fan of Greenwald, you dig? Maybe Lassen thinks it’s all true, maybe he doesn’t, who knows? You know who else gives the above poisoned stew of lying new Judenhass of Greenwald’s a hearty cheer? I realize – and this is scary – a lot of you don’t. Or think it nothing to be concerned about, namely that neo-Nazis and KKK types (such as David Duke) and Muslim extremists would and do give Greenwald’s uh commentary on the Jew among the nations the high cheer. It’s just a coincidence, nothing to see here. Move along.
Only through the warped lens of a Jew-hating Jew like Greenwald could one believe that in the hostile anti-Israel climate in the universities of America, any and all ‘criticisms’ of Israel are being gagged and such ‘critics’ (ie dishonest anti-Semites like Cole, Walt and Mearsheimer who Greenwald so admires) are being cast into the wilderness. It’s more like the other way around, given the fashionable anti-Semitic hysterics across the Ivy League, from Berkeley to Columbia (which has hosted Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after all) and Harvard. In fact Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government recently hosted a disgusting anti-Semitic ‘one state solution’ symposium on Israel passed off as legitimate commentary. It’s revealing, yet hardly surprising, that Greenwald is such an admirer of the anti-Semites Juan Cole, Walt and Mearsheimer (as the one quote alone above tells us). As I mention further up Walt and Mearsheimer have created a big stir in academia by explicitly blaming the Jews ie the Israel lobby for pushing America into war in Iraq in 2003. There has been a lot of commentary on the fact that new anti-Semitism has entered the academic mainstream with the Walt and Mearsheimer palubum alone (that has naturally been endorsed by the likes of David Duke and Muslim extremists alike). There is of course naturally nothing new to the Walt and Mearsheimer ‘thesis’, it’s as old as Jew-hatred itself. When Christian nations go to war, blame the Jews. They made you do it.
Also of note are Greenwald’s extreme accusations against well-known Jewish pro-Israeli commentators, using almost demonizing terminology. In one post he accuses Michael Goldfarb of The Weekly Standard and Martin Peretz of The New Republic of “psychopathic derangement” over what he characterizes as their insensitivity toward civilian deaths. He goes on to impute to them “sociopathic indifference,” and says these are the same attributes as terrorists possess. Goldfarb and Peretz, he says further, seem to get a “blood-pumping excitement” from the suffering of the weakest members of society.
Regarding syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer, Greenwald asserts: “It is difficult to find someone with a more psychopathic indifference to the slaughter of innocent people in pursuit of shadowy, unstated political goals than Charles Krauthammer.” And Greenwald calls Senator Joe Lieberman, in the context of his support for Israel, a “bloodthirsty” fanatic.
red wolf – Greenwald has also been peripherally involved in writing about CAP (Center for American Progress) and the controversy of its use of the sinister ‘Israel firster’ smearing, ie any Jooooos daring to give their support to the Jew among the nations (which is more imperiled than ever before) are perceived to be guilty of dual loyalties, not to be trusted, not ‘good patriotic Americans’. J Adler writes about this controversy in some detail over here (and Greenwald’s eye-opening correspondence with the liberal Jeff Goldberg of The Atlantic re Goldberg’s national loyalties. Goldberg’s response to Greenwald is here).
As Goldberg writes:
… the term “Israel-Firster” is originally a neo-Nazi term (Willis Carto’s fascist Liberty Lobby was a big proponent of its use, as is David Duke), and it is meant to raise questions about a Jewish person’s willingness to be loyal to America (this is merely the local variant of an ancient anti-Semitic trope). CAP, to its credit, acknowledged the anti-Semitic nature of the term, and apologized.
Greenwald comes off less than well in this whole affair. Yet it’s par for the course with him.
Here is a tweet of Greenwald’s (that his admiring fan Lassen didn’t – it would appear – retweet).
As David Swindle writes (back in 2010):
Salon’s Israel-Basher-In-Chief, Glenn Greenwald just tweeted:
The noble courage so many are exhibiting in standing up to 89-year-old columnist Helen Thomas is so very impressive. Bold and risky.
Nothing surprises me anymore.
What’s that about? The fact that Helen Thomas was fired for dropping the mask on her Judenhass, telling the Jews that they should get back to Poland. As long as she kept the mask intact and hid behind the anti-Israel cover terminology, everything was just hunky dory. I remember Helen Thomas vilifying Israel at a White House press meet over the death of nine Turkish jihadists at the hands of the IDF in self-defense – the Mavi Marmara incident – that she termed a ‘massacre’ (of innocents naturally). Reminds me of China Mieville who said the exact same thing, and used this brazen lie as an excuse to give his support to the BDS campaign against Israel. Not that any ‘anti-racist’ liberal Jew or Gentile writer/editor in the genre community has anything to say about it (sounds of silence).
Greenwald wears his Jew-hatred on his sleeve with that tweet. To Greenwald the bad guys are the ones who call out Helen Thomas’s Judenhass (‘Jews should get back to Poland’) for what it is. Who are the good guys here, the ones defending the Jew-hater Thomas, because an elderly Jew-hater cannot be a Jew-hater? The mind boggles.
Here is a lengthy detailed piece on Greenwald’s recent support for the odious conspiracy theorist and anti-Semite and racist Ron Paul and Greenwald’s loopy justifications for his support of Paul.
There is a fair bit there on Greenwald’s twisted anti-Semitism, his clear sympathy for the Iranian regime’s march to get nuclear weapons comes shining through. And to the point, Greenwald just echoes by his own admission, Iranian media outlets!
From the link:
Notice how easily Glenn manipulates anti-Israeli propaganda:
“Iranian nuclear scientists are actually being murdered. That is almost certainly happening through some combination of Israeli and American actions — at the very least with the approval and complicity of the Obama administration.”
And what is Glenn Greenwald’s evidence that the assassinations of these scientists are happening through “some combination of Israeli and American actions?” Why, the Iranian government. From the article Greenwald himself links to make this point:
“In the previous cases, Iranian media outlets and spokesmen accused the Mossad, the CIA and MI6 of being behind the strikes. […]
According to Iran, the attacks show that those responsible – Iran blames Israel and the Mossad – are determined to strike at scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear program.”
Funny, isn’t it, how the avowed civil libertarian with profound distrust of government suddenly thinks that you should take the Iranian government at its word? Heh, I guess the libertarian streak of distrust of government only applies to the American and Israeli governments; not the Iranian ones. Or maybe this isn’t about civil libertarian concerns at all.
red wolf – It’s important though not to miss the forest for the trees here. Clearly Greenwald gets upset at the thought of anybody daring to kill Iranian nuclear scientists. The horror of it. I mean it’s not like they are working on a nuclear weaponization program for a Muslim extremist regime that openly promises to wipe Israel off the map. Er …
There is of course so much more to Greenwald’s Judenhass oeuvre, but I can’t write a book here. And one could easily fill a book with Greenwald’s deranged politics and his vicious anti-Semitic prejudice. Easily. If the reader doesn’t get that Greenwald is prejudiced against Jewry after everything detailed above, and harbors such prejudice to an inordinate degree, then all the worse for the reader. There is such a thing as self-loathing you know.
This is the political journalist at Salon, Glenn Greenwald who earns Night Shade Books publisher Jeremy Lassen’s deep respect and commendation. Well Lassen certainly appears to retweet (with unambiguous support) more of Greenwald’s tweets than any other political commentator, bar none.
In fact as I published my first article in this Lassen series on 16th June, I checked Lassen’s twitter feed and noticed that he had retweeted two Greenwald tweets that very day (as I mention near the beginning of this article)! One of those tweets from Greenwald is so outrageous and obscene in its clear sympathy for an indisputable Muslim extremist in America, who the US government dared to have the gall to prosecute. This Muslim fundamentalist is indisputably guilty of multiple deceptions in denying his support to those actively involved in the Palestinian jihad against Israel ie the Jews. To Greenwald he (Sami Al-Arian) is clearly an innocent victim of persecution by the US government. Such a sentiment from Greenwald comes as no surprise. The thing is Lassen retweets it with clear approval. In fact so outrageous is this tweet of Greenwald’s that Lasssen gives his endorsement to, that it deserves and gets an article all to itself, in part 3 of this series.
Then again, Greenwald is not the only self-hating ‘Jew’ who Lassen admires so much. There is also Lassen’s effusive praise for one of the most popular self-hating Jews in the English language world, the Hezbollah supporter Noam Chomsky (all the indisputable evidence for Chomsky’s self-loathing I have already alluded to in my clash with self-hating Jew genre fan Mark Pontin). Of course the reader may object that Chomsky is popular with so many liberals around the world (as he is with Muslim extremists like the late Osama Bin Laden and neo-Nazis), indeed he is. All this goes to show how pervasive political know-nothingness is among the Left, along with a soft spot for moral relativism and a willful blindness to vicious Jew-hatred. At best.
